The Albany State Golden Rams quest for a 2023 SIAC Championship ended on Saturday at the ASU West Campus Baseball Complex after falling to the Spring Hill College Badgers and the Savannah State Tigers.
In game 1, the Golden Rams lost a heartbreaker to the Spring Hill College Badgers by the score of (3-2). In the bottom of the 8
th inning,
Nathan Lloyd hit a double to right field to score
Lavoisier Fisher to give the Golden Rams a (2-1) lead heading into the 9
th inning. But, the Badgers' Nick Hunter singled to right field to score Seth Williams and Jackson Bell to give Spring Hill a (3-2) lead. The Golden Rams failed to score in the bottom of the 9
th inning.
Landon Kiefer pitched 8 innings and didn't allow an earned run. Kiefer struck out 5 batters.
John Luegering and
Chase Karn pitched in relief in the 9
th inning.
With the loss to Spring Hill, the Golden Rams faced the Savannah State Tiger in the loser's bracket on Saturday evening. Trailing (7-6) in the bottom of the 8
th inning,
Nathan Lloyd scored on a wild pitch to tie the score at (7-7). The score would remain tied until the top of the 12
th inning when Mason McLeod hit a sacrifice fly to score Hakem Smith to give the Tigers an (8-7) lead. The Golden Rams responded in the bottom of the 12
th inning when
Zane Ross hit a single to center field to score
Austin Roberts to tie the score (8-8). In the top of the 13
th inning, Cooper LeTellier hit a single to center field to score Andrai Wright for the winning run.
Tyler Bullock pitched 6.1 innings for the Golden Rams. Bullock allowed 5 earned runs.
John Luegering pitched .2 innings in relief. Williams Beasely pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 earned runs while striking out 2 batters.
With the win, Savannah State advanced to play the Spring Hill College Badgers in the 2023 SIAC Championship on Sunday afternoon.
