Intercollegiate Athletic Council
The former Athletic Director’s Advisory Committee (ADC) has been rebranded as the Intercollegiate Athletic Council (IAC) to better reflect its expanded role in supporting the strategic direction and overall success of Albany State University Athletics.
The IAC serves as an advisory body to the Director of Athletics, offering insight and recommendations on key areas including business development, community partnerships, alumni and fan engagement, and the expansion of departmental resources. In addition to providing strategic guidance, the IAC also plays a vital role in supporting special projects and initiatives aimed at building a nationally respected NCAA Division II athletics program.
Council Composition
Members of the Intercollegiate Athletic Council are appointed by the Director of Athletics and include a diverse group of alumni, university supporters, and business and community leaders. All members share a commitment to advancing the mission of ASU Athletics and enhancing the student-athlete experience.
Terms of Service
Council members serve a two-year term, with the option for reappointment to one or more subsequent terms based on continued interest and engagement.
Council Sub-Committees
To further support its mission, the IAC is organized into strategic sub-committees:
- Rules Compliance and Institutional Control: Responsible for advising the Athletics Council on compliance issues related to NCAA rules, including recruiting, certification, and financial aid. The subcommittee reviews rule violations and preventive measures, aiming to ensure institutional control and an effective compliance system within the department.
- Academic Integrity - Advises the Athletic Council on departmental academic standards and student-athlete admissions; reviews sports scheduling policies, absences, graduation rates, grade point averages, academic support services, and related audits.
- Student Welfare and Gender and Minority Issues - Responsible for reviewing policies on gender and minority issues, sportsmanship, and student-athlete welfare. Activities include analyzing the gender and ethnic makeup of sports and staff, reviewing Title IX plans, and examining minutes from the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
- Fiscal Integrity - Responsible for reviewing the Athletics budget and submitting recommendations. In addition, review the results of internal and external financial audits of the department's operations; periodically review policies and procedures for awarding grant-in-aid to student-athletes.
These sub-committees will help drive targeted initiatives that align with the department’s goals, ensuring a collaborative and community-centered approach to athletic success.
