January 5, 2018
ALBANY- The Albany State University Athletic Department is proud to announce the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the fall 2017 semester.
Overall 130 student-athletes, representing each of ASU's 13 NCAA sponsored sports and cheerleading program, finished the first semester of the academic year with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Comparatively, 91 student-athletes had a 3.0 or better for the fall of 2016.
"We are always proud of our student-athletes' accomplishments both on and off the field," states Athletic Director Sherie Gordon. "Our staff has made the all-around success of our student-athletes a priority and the returns at the close of the fall semester are a direct result of everyone's dedication and hard work."
Six programs -- men's cross country, women's tennis, men's golf, softball, baseball and women's basketball—boasted a fall semester GPA of 3.0 or better. At the close of December five teams, including men's and women's cross country, men's golf, softball and volleyball, maintained an average GPA of 3.0 or better. Men's cross country topped both team GPA categories (semester and overall) with a 3.39 and a 3.30, respectively.
Kenneth Bailey, Jordan Griffin, Paul Roth (baseball), Christian Hanson (men's golf), Caitlyn Gooch, Megan Shepherd, Demeshia Russell (softball) Josh Ajiero (Men's Track & Field) and Samantha Heard (women's tennis) achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA for fall 2017.
Twenty student-athletes representing seven athletic programs earned their undergraduate degrees at the Fall Commencement held last month at the Albany Civic Center.
