Albany State Names Troy Williams Head Strength & Conditioning Coach

ALBANY, Ga. — Albany State University Athletics has named Troy L. Williams, Jr. as the department's Head Strength & Conditioning Coach, returning to lead performance training for Golden Rams student-athletes. Williams will officially begin his duties on Monday, February 23, 2026.

A proud Albany State alumnus, Williams brings extensive Division I and Division II experience, along with nationally recognized credentials in strength and conditioning.

"We're excited to welcome Troy back home, not only to his alma mater, but back to Albany State Athletics," said Dr. Kristene Kelly, Director of Athletics. "He understands our culture, and he brings the leadership, experience, and standard we expect as we continue elevating everything we do."

Williams most recently served as Football Strength & Conditioning Coach at Morehouse College (2025–present) and previously held roles including Director of Football Strength & Conditioning at Hampton University (2024) and Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach (Football) at Syracuse University (2023–24).

This marks a return to a familiar place for Williams, who served as Head Strength & Conditioning Coach at Albany State from 2018–2023, overseeing performance programming for the department's sports and introducing enhanced tools and education designed to support student-athlete development.

"I am excited to be back at my alma mater. I am looking forward to working with the administration, coaches, and student-athletes," Williams said. "We won't just train to compete- we'll train to dominate, develop leaders, and raise the standard every single day."

Over the course of his career, Williams has worked across multiple levels of college athletics, including stops at the University of Arizona, the University of Minnesota, Missouri University of Science and
Technology, Eastern Illinois University, and Truman State University.

Williams holds a Master of Science in PE/Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Central Missouri and earned his undergraduate degree from Albany State University.

He brings a deep slate of professional credentials, including Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach with Distinction (RSCC*D), USAW Level 1, and Master Strength and Conditioning Coach (MSCC), among others.

Williams has also contributed to the field through published research and professional presentations, continuing to bring a learning mindset to performance and development.
