Albany State Football Announces Terrence Harris as Defensive Backs Coach

Albany, Ga. — Albany State University Athletics and Head Football Coach David Bowser have announced the hiring of Terrence Harris as the program's new Defensive Backs Coach, effective April 20, 2026.

Harris returns to Albany State with a strong foundation of coaching experience, player development success, and a deep connection to the Golden Rams program. A former student-athlete at ASU, he brings both familiarity and a proven ability to elevate performance on the field.

Harris joins the Golden Rams after serving in multiple roles at Clark Atlanta University, where he most recently coached safeties during the 2025 season. Under his leadership, the Panthers' secondary ranked 23rd in NCAA Division II in passing yards allowed, showcasing discipline, communication, and advanced coverage execution.

Throughout his time at Clark Atlanta, Harris demonstrated versatility and leadership. In 2024, he coached running backs and contributed to an offense that ranked first in the SIAC in total offense and 12th nationally in Division II, helping lead the team to a conference championship runner-up finish. During the 2023 season, Harris earned a mid-season promotion to Assistant Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach, where he helped design game plans, implement defensive adjustments, and develop an All-Conference performer in the secondary.

Beyond his on-field contributions, Harris has mentored more than 50 student-athletes, emphasizing academic success, character development, and overall growth. He has also played an active role in recruiting, practice coordination, and fostering relationships across athletic and academic support services.

As a player, Harris built an impressive collegiate career, most notably at Clark Atlanta, where he earned First Team All-SIAC honors and established himself as one of the top safeties in Division II. His collegiate career began at Albany State from 2016 to 2017, making his return to the program especially meaningful.

Harris holds a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies from Albany State University and has remained active in player development through camps and mentorship initiatives throughout his career.
