This Week In Athletics: Golden Rams Build Momentum as Busy Week of Competition Approaches

Albany, Ga. - The Albany State athletics programs delivered another exciting week of competition as several teams picked up key victories and strong performances across the board. With conference play heating up and multiple teams finding their rhythm, the Golden Rams continue to build momentum heading into another busy week of action.
 
The Albany State baseball team had a standout week, sweeping Savannah State in a three-game series after a competitive 9–6 loss to Middle Georgia. The Golden Rams started strong with a 13–6 win, followed by a dramatic 4–3 comeback victory, and finished with a solid 6–1 win, showcasing effective pitching and hitting.
 
Meanwhile, the Albany State women's basketball team opened postseason play with an impressive 80–49 victory over Edward Waters but saw their season end in a narrow 71–69 semifinal loss to Lane, demonstrating resilience throughout the tournament. On the tennis courts, the women's team celebrated their first win of the season with a hard-fought 4–3 victory over ABAC, highlighted by strong performances in both doubles and singles play.
 
The Albany State softball team also enjoyed a productive weekend series against Savannah State. The Lady Golden Rams battled in three competitive games, earning two victories out of the three-game series. Albany State responded after a narrow opening loss with a thrilling 7–6 win, followed by a 2–1 victory that showcased strong pitching and timely offense as the Lady Golden Rams secured the series.
 
Meanwhile, the Albany State track and field teams opened their outdoor season with a strong showing at the Embry-Riddle Eagle Invite in Daytona Beach, Florida. Competing against a large field of programs, the Golden Rams men's team finished sixth overall, while the Lady Golden Rams delivered an impressive third-place finish, highlighted by several top performances across both track and field events.

With momentum building across multiple programs, Albany State now turns its focus to another packed week of competition.
 
The Golden Rams baseball team will begin the week on the road Tuesday, March 10, traveling to Milledgeville, Georgia, for a 5:00 p.m. matchup against Georgia College before continuing the road stretch later in the week with a series at Edward Waters in Jacksonville, Florida. The teams will face off on Friday at 5:00 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
 
Softball will also spend the week on the road as the Lady Golden Rams travel to Birmingham, Alabama, to compete in the SIAC Crossover Tournament. Albany State is scheduled for multiple games across three days, beginning Tuesday with contests at 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The tournament continues Wednesday with games at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., before wrapping up Thursday with matchups at 10:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
 
The Albany State women's tennis team will return to action Wednesday when the Lady Golden Rams travel to Savannah, Georgia, for a 1:00 p.m. conference match against Savannah State. Later in the week, the tennis program will compete at the PTR Springfest in Hilton Head, South Carolina, taking place Thursday and Friday.
 
Track and field will also return to competition this weekend as the Golden Rams travel to Savannah, Georgia, to compete in the Tiger Relays on Saturday, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

ABOUT ALBANY STATE ATHLETICS
Albany State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II-level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently fields teams in 11 sports: women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track and field, women's soccer, baseball, and football, with all teams competing in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), except women's soccer, which participates in the Peach Belt Conference.
