Orlando, Fla. — The Albany State women's tennis team wrapped up Day 3 of the SIAC Roundup Tournament with two competitive matches, continuing to show fight and steady development despite falling to Benedict College and Edward Waters on the final day of play.
In the morning matchup against Benedict, the Lady Golden Rams battled point-for-point in one of their most competitive outings of the tournament before narrowly falling 4-3. The contest came down to the final swings, highlighting Albany State's resilience and growth throughout the weekend.
Brooklyn Bowens,
Ameerah Mesidor, and
Autumn Bryant each secured singles victories to account for Albany State's three points. Bowens continued her strong weekend with confident baseline play and smart shot selection, while Mesidor showcased composure in extended rallies to earn her point. Bryant delivered a determined performance, grinding through key moments to secure her singles win.
Monique Gundrum and
Le'Ashia Miller also turned in strong showings in singles competition, pushing their opponents in tightly contested sets and keeping the momentum competitive throughout the lineup.
In the afternoon match against Edward Waters, Albany State continued to compete with energy and focus but ultimately fell 4-0. Despite the final score, the Lady Golden Rams demonstrated steady improvement and intensity on every court. Gundrum and Bowens once again delivered standout performances, setting the tone with aggressive play and consistency. Mesidor, Bryant, and Miller also had strong showings in singles, continuing to battle through long rallies and challenging points.
Doubles play remained a bright spot for Albany State throughout the day. The pairings of Mesidor and Gundrum, along with Bowens and Miller, continued to showcase resilience, communication, and promise. Their chemistry at the net and willingness to fight for every point reflected the team's determination to compete at a high level.
While the results did not fall in their favor this weekend, the Lady Golden Rams displayed toughness, growth, and flashes of strong team chemistry that will serve them well moving forward.
Up next, Albany State returns to the courts for a non-conference matchup against Abraham Baldwin on March 5 in Tifton, Ga. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. as the Lady Golden Rams look to build on the progress shown in Orlando.
