Albany, Ga. – Fresh off a historic championship run, Albany State Baseball is set to open the 2026 season with confidence, momentum, and unfinished business. The Golden Rams will begin their title defense on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, by hosting Georgia College at 2:00 PM in Albany.
The matchup renews a recent non-conference meeting between the two programs. The last time Albany State and Georgia College squared off was on April 10, 2024, when the Bobcats claimed a 7–2 win. This time around, the Golden Rams enter with a different edge—battle-tested, proven, and hungry to build on one of the most successful seasons in program history.
Albany State enters the new campaign eager to pick up where things left off in 2025. The Golden Rams finished last season with a 31–22 overall record, captured the 2025 SIAC Championship, and made history by earning the program's first-ever NCAA postseason victory, defeating Lynn University in the playoffs. That breakthrough win marked a turning point for the program and set a new standard moving forward.
Georgia College enters the contest having already been tested early in the season. The Bobcats opened the 2026 campaign against the No. 1-ranked University of Tampa, dropping both games of the series to start the year 0–2. With both teams seeking early momentum, the season opener promises to be a competitive and telling first look at the year ahead.
A Challenging and Purposeful 2026 Schedule
Albany State's 2026 schedule is built to prepare the Golden Rams for another deep postseason run, blending strong non-conference opponents with a demanding SIAC slate.
The fall portion begins with a scrimmage against South Georgia State on October 31, offering an early glimpse at the roster before the spring grind. February opens with a busy stretch that includes road trips to West Alabama and Augusta State, followed by midweek contests against Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern.
Conference play ramps up quickly, with key SIAC series against Kentucky State, LeMoyne-Owen, Spring Hill, Savannah State, Edward Waters, Lane, Clark Atlanta, Morehouse, Benedict, Miles, and Tuskegee. Several of those matchups will take place at home, giving Golden Ram fans plenty of opportunities to see championship-caliber baseball in Albany.
Notable dates on the home calendar include:
- Kentucky State (Feb. 14–15)
- LeMoyne-Owen (Feb. 21–22)
- Savannah State (March 6–7)
- Clark Atlanta (March 27–28), featuring Little League Day, Alumni Day, and Senior Day festivities
- Miles (April 18–19), highlighted by Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day and Business Appreciation Day
The regular season concludes with a late-April road series at Tuskegee, setting the stage for postseason play. The SIAC Tournament, scheduled for April 30–May 3, will once again determine the conference champion and automatic bid.
With a championship pedigree, postseason experience, and a schedule designed to challenge and sharpen the roster, Albany State Baseball enters 2026 with clear expectations. The Golden Rams are no longer chasing history—they're defending it.
First pitch of the new era is set for Tuesday, February 3, as Albany State welcomes Georgia College to town. Fans are encouraged to come out, bring the energy, and help usher in another exciting season of Golden Rams baseball.
