Box Score Rome, Ga. – The Albany State women's soccer team dropped its 2025 season opener on the road Thursday evening, falling 2-0 to Shorter University at Ben Brady Field. With the result, the Lady Hawks take a 2-1 series lead over the Lady Golden Rams.
Both teams battled evenly through much of the first half, with neither side finding a clear edge early. Shorter broke through in the 36th minute, as Kaylin Stallings scored to put the Hawks ahead 1-0 at halftime.
Albany State continued to push in the second half, generating quality chances on goal, but Shorter goalkeeper Karis Eccleston anchored the Hawks' defense with eight saves on the night. Momentum shifted against the Golden Rams midway through the period, when an own goal extended Shorter's advantage to 2-0, sealing the final margin.
