Albany, GA – The Albany State University Track & Field program is set to host one of its signature events of the season, the Annual Alice Coachman Invitational, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Hampton Smith Fields at the Robert Cross Track & Field Complex. The meet will begin promptly at 8:00 AM, bringing together some of the region's top collegiate programs for a full day of competition and celebration.
Named in honor of Alice Coachman, an Albany State alumna and the first African-American woman to win an Olympic gold medal, the invitational celebrates both athletic excellence and the powerful legacy of one of the greatest pioneers in sports history.
The 2025 Alice Coachman Invitational will also serve as Senior Day, as the Golden Rams honor their graduating student-athletes for their dedication, leadership, and outstanding contributions to the program. A special presentation will be held during the meet to celebrate their careers and legacy within the Albany State Track & Field family.
The Golden Rams enter the weekend with strong momentum after a standout performance at the Legends Invitational hosted by the University of West Georgia. The men's team finished 3rd overall, while the women's team claimed an impressive 2nd-place finish, collecting several individual wins and top-three performances across sprint, distance, and field events.
At the 2024 Alice Coachman Invitational, Albany State welcomed 14 men's teams and 11 women's teams to the Robert Cross Complex. The Golden Rams rose to the occasion, with the men finishing 2nd overall and the Lady Golden Rams capturing the team title on the women's side.

ABOUT ALBANY STATE ATHLETICS
Albany State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II-level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently field teams in 11 sports: women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track and field, women's soccer, baseball, and football. All teams compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), except women's soccer, which participates in the Peach Belt Conference.
