Savannah, Ga. — The Albany State University track and field teams showcased an impressive performance this past weekend at the Orange & Blue Tiger Relays, hosted by Savannah State University. Competing against a strong field, the Golden Rams amassed 316.5 points (Men 132.5 points/ Women 184 points), securing a second-place finish overall. Their success was marked by multiple event victories, remarkable relay performances, and standout individual achievements across both track and field events.
Albany State's strong results were bolstered by an outstanding showing in the throwing events. Freshman
Kaylee Holloway delivered an exceptional performance, winning first place in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.52 meters and first place in the women's discus with a mark of 45.14 meters. She also earned a second-place finish in the hammer throw, demonstrating her versatility and strength across multiple disciplines. Teammates
Sataria Cantrell and
Levita Williams also contributed valuable points in the throwing events by finishing among the top competitors.
On the men's side,
Michael Trimble led the Golden Rams' throwing unit with a first-place finish in the hammer throw (41.24 meters). He also secured points with a second-place finish in the shot put and a third-place finish in the discus, helping Albany State maintain a strong presence in the field events throughout the meet.
Tyler Nonnombre added a second-place finish in the hammer throw, while
Jamari Craig contributed points by placing in multiple events.
The Golden Rams also excelled in jumping events.
Cadence Tanner delivered a standout performance by winning the women's long jump with a leap of 5.47 meters. LaRon Coley placed second in the men's long jump and added another scoring performance in the triple jump.
Albany State continued to shine in the throwing circle as
Skye Zwirner captured first place in the women's javelin throw, with Williams following closely behind to secure a second-place finish, providing additional points for the Golden Rams.
On the track, Albany State had several strong performances.
Adoni Nembhard-Belcher led the men's sprinting team with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 48.27 seconds. Teammates
Bangally Touray and
Rayshawn Goodman also contributed by scoring in the event, achieving three top finishes for Albany State.
The Golden Rams were also successful in the hurdles, with
DeAna Albert claiming first place in the women's 100-meter hurdles, followed closely by
Mayah Thompson, who finished second. On the men's side, Mohammed Bah placed second in the 110-meter hurdles, with
Jace Weaver also adding another top finish.
In distance events,
Faith Thompson secured first place in the women's 5,000-meter run, with
Kaila Wimes finishing second for a strong one-two performance. Deshawn Singletery contributed to the men's side by achieving a second-place finish in the men's 5,000-meter run.
Relay teams were instrumental in Albany State's strong overall finish, with the women's 4x200-meter relay team capturing first place. The women's 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay teams both secured second-place finishes, contributing valuable points to the team's score.
With a deep roster contributing across nearly every event group, Albany State demonstrated its balance and competitive depth throughout the meet. This strong runner-up finish reflects the ongoing growth and momentum of the Golden Rams track and field program as the outdoor season progresses.
