Golden Rams Baseball Team Makes Impact Off the Field through Community Service

Albany, GA -The Albany State University Golden Rams baseball team has taken the fall season to make a meaningful impact beyond the field. Through multiple community service initiatives, the team has embraced the opportunity to connect with the community, devoting over 300 hours to various projects and events, led by Head Coach Scott Hemmings.

In one of their standout contributions, the team recently wrapped up a four-week camp for Lee County Little League players. The free camp, held every Tuesday, gave young athletes a chance to work with the Golden Rams players, learning fundamentals and preparing for the upcoming 2025 spring season. "It's been incredible seeing the impact we can make on these kids," remarked one ASU player. "We wanted to show them what hard work and dedication can do on the field."

The team also spent time supporting the Albany Special Olympics softball team by scrimmaging with them as they prepared for their state tournament. "It was a special experience," one player shared. "Playing alongside these athletes, hearing their stories—it was something I'll never forget."

Community connections continued on October 26, when the team volunteered at Molson Coors for their Family Day event. Golden Rams players and coaches served over 400 attendees, offering a helping hand in various activities and ensuring the event was a success. Closer to home, the team also contributed to game day operations by assisting with parking for three home football games this season.

Head Coach Scott Hemmings commended his team's commitment, saying, "I wanted our program to fully understand what serving their community meant. These players have made this community their own while they're here at ASU, and that's something that will stay with them long after they graduate."

With an impressive fall both on and off the field, the Golden Rams are already gearing up for an exciting spring season, set to kick off February 1 against Eckerd College. As they prepare for the season opener, the ASU community knows it has a team that not only plays for the university but also champions its values in the wider Albany community.
