We are excited to announce the ASU Golden Rams have hired Jason Townsend to take over the pitching duties. Jason Townsend is originally from Albany, GA and is a 2007 graduate of Sherwood Christian Academy where he played football and baseball. Upon graduation from Sherwood, Coach Townsend went on to pitch at Chipola Junior College for legendary Coach Jeff Johnson and then at the University of Alabama, before signing with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 31st round in 2010. Jason spent five seasons in the Pirates organization before an arm injury forced him to retire. Coach Hemmings stated this about Coach Townsend, "We are very fortunate to be able to hire Jason to lead our pitching staff, especially mid-year. He has a wealth of knowledge and was an outstanding pitcher at every level. He will relate well to the players and bring energy and passion to take this talented staff to a new level. We are looking forward to the 2024 season as Coach Townsend added a huge piece of the puzzle to our program." Coach Townsend is eager to get on the field for the 2024 Spring Season which begins on February 6 at home vs. Valdosta State University at 4:00.
