Golden Rams to Face High Flying Hawks

The Albany State University Golden Rams (1-1) and Shorter University Hawks (2-0) will play in a SIAC/ Gulf South showdown on Saturday, September 17.  The game will kickoff at 12:00 pm in Rome, Georgia.
 
To open the season, the Albany State Golden Rams used a strong 2nd half defensively to defeat the Mississippi Choctaws (28-14) at the Albany State Coliseum.  Dionte Bonneau completed 13 passes in 22 attempts for 161 yards with 1 touchdown.  Marcuis Fulks led the Golden Rams in rushing with 16 carries for 115 yards and 1 touchdown.  Joe Shorter led the Golden Rams in receiving with 2 receptions for 72 yards and 1 touchdown.
 
On Saturday, September 10, the Golden Rams lost (23-13) to the FAMU Rattlers.  ASU garnered 15 first downs and 299 yards of total offense.  The Golden Rams had a balanced attack with 155 yards rushing and 144 yards passing. 
 
"We've got to bounce back quickly.  Shorter is a good team from the Gulf South.  We're just excited to get the opportunities to play every week and we've got to get healthy," said Gabe Giardina.
 
To open the season, the Hawks defeated Brevard (45-6).  The Hawks finished with 561 total yards of offense, and held Brevard College to 176 yards of total offense.
 
Against Catawba College, the Hawks finished with 461 yards of total offense in route to a (34-21) victory.  The Hawks passed for 196 yards and rushed for 265 yards.
 
The Golden Rams and Hawks last played on September 11, 2021.  On that day, the Golden Rams won (28-12).  Dionte Bonneau finished with 278 yards through the air on 21-of-27 passing with two touchdowns, while adding 84 yards on the ground.
