Albany State University will host the 2022 Alice Coachman Invitational at the ASU East Campus on Saturday, April 9. The Field events will begin at 10:00 am. The Albany State Track & Field Team will have a "Senior Day" Ceremony at 12:45 pm. Then, the track events will start at 1:00 pm.
Alice Coachman made history at the 1948 Olympics in London when she leaped to a record-breaking height of 5 feet, 6 and 1/8 inches in the high jump finals to become the first Black woman to win an Olympic gold medal. Coachman was born on November 9, 1923, in Albany, Georgia. By 1946, the same year she enrolled in Albany State College, she was the national champion in the 50- and 100-meter races, 400-meter relay and high jump.
