ASU MEN TAKE THIRD PLACE AT SIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Six Golden Rams Earn Top Honors in Individual Events

ALBANY- The Albany State University men's track team finished third overall at the 2018 SIAC Track and Field Championships held April 20-22 at Hugh Mills Stadium.

Morehouse College took first place with a total of 187 points followed by Benedict College with 171.50. ASU, Claflin University and Central State round out the top five teams.

All-American Cervantes Jackson was one of six Golden Rams to earn the title of SIAC Champion in individual events. Jackson captured the decathlon, placing first in four of ten events, and was crowned the SIAC long jump champion with a distance of 7.34

Jackson also took second place in the triple jump with a 14.73m effort. He was named the Most Outstanding Field Performer and with a total of 5943, earned the High Point Field Performer for the Outdoor Championship. He also finished in second place in the triple jump with a jump of 14.73m

Joshua Ajiero also doubled as an SIAC Champion in two events, taking first place in the 1500m run with a time of 4:02.91 and the men's 800m with a time of 1:51.87.

Marquis Davis was crowed as champion of the men's discus throw with a distance of 46.85m and took the silver in the shot put behind Jonhoi Clarke of Benedict College with an effort of 13.62m.

Other Golden Rams that were tabbed as SIAC Champions in their respective events were Daniel Oduah who took first place in the high jump (1.95m) and Christopher Jackson in the men's 100m dash with a time of 10.75. Oduah also medaled in the triple jump, taking third place with a distance of 14.54m and senior Jamorris Hill wrapped his final SIAC Championship with a second place finish in the men's 800m with a time of 1:54.66.
