Golden Rams lose to Point University in extra innings

Box Score West Point, Ga.- The Albany State baseball team opportunity to garner its first win of the season. However, a late run by the home team was fatal. Point University scored a run in the 10^th inning, which sent ASU to a 9-8 defeat.

With the loss, the Golden Rams fall to 0-4 overall. PU improves to 6-5.

Albany State was behind early and had to fight back into contention. Point scored six runs in the bottom of the first to take the early advantage. The home team added two more runs in the bottom of third for an 8-0 edge.

The Golden Rams got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning. Quantico Dodson-Williams hit a sacrifice to right field to score Ben Greenstein and cut the visitors' deficit to 8-1.

ASU continued its offensive production in the next stanza. Jonatan Galan smashed a double down the left field line, which allowed Reise McDaniel and Robbie Feagans to go home and make the score 8-3. Galan later scored courtesy of a Skyhawk error, and Albany State only trailed 8-4.

Albany State was able to tie the game in the top of the ninth inning. Jonathan Cirullo and Bryant Prather each scored off a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 8-6. Dodson-Williams and Kelvin Wimbish also added runs, and the game was headed into extra innings after the ASU defense shut the Skyhawks down the bottom of the inning.

Point reclaimed the lead with a run in the bottom of the 10^th inning. Albany State had an opportunity to extend the game in the top of the 11^th, but it could not send any more runs across the plate.

Galan led ASU with two hits and two RBIs. Albany State collected nine hits, committed three errors and left 15 runners on base. Lawrence Hyde was the losing pitcher.

Point was led by Jeffery Ginn, who recorded two hits and two RBIs. Bryce Jay, Devario Allen and Harrison Kurtz added two hits apiece.

The Skyhawks tallied 11 hits, six errors and 11 stranded runners. Will Ziebol was the winning pitcher.

Albany State will return home Feb. 17-19 to host Saint Leo University for a three-game series. The Golden Rams and Lions will play on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
