Worthy’s single pushes Golden Rams past Clark Atlanta

Box Score Albany, Georgia- Sophomore Terrance Worthy hit a single to score teammate Allen Hardy in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 7-6 victory over Clark Atlanta. The game was the first in a three-game weekend series between the two SIAC opponents.
 
ASU improves to 11-27 overall and 7-5 in the SIAC. CAU falls to 1-22, 1-15. 
 
Despite its hapless record, Clark Atlanta was not intimidated by Albany State early in the game. In fact, the Panthers used timely hits and two ASU errors to take a 4-0 lead after the top of the first inning. CAU added another run in the top of the fourth for a 5-0 edge.
 
The Golden Rams finally started their rally in the bottom of the fourth inning. Worthy and Carrasquillo belted back-to-back singles, and Jonatan Galan sent them both home with a triple. ASU closed the gap to 5-3 after the inning.
 
In the sixth inning, Worthy continued his hot streak at the plate when he started the stanza with a double. He would score again on the next play when Carrasquillo smashed a triple to left field. The Golden Rams cut their deficit to 5-4.
 
Hardy got into the act in the bottom of the seventh inning by hitting a single to send Ryan Latner home to tie the contest at five all. Worthy followed with another single, and Ryan Hickox scored off that hit to give Albany State a 6-5 lead.
 
In the top of the ninth inning, Clark Atlanta scored a run to tie the score at six. After getting a defensive stop with the bases loaded, ASU took their final offensive possession.
 
With two outs in the innings, Hardy hit a double to put himself in scoring position. With Worthy at bat, Hardy would steal third base. Worthy claimed his hero role when he hit a single over second base to score Hardy and put ASU in the win column. 
 
Worthy finished the game with four hits and two RBIs. Galan had two hits and two RBIs, and Hardy, Latner and Carrasquillo each added two hits. Elijah McKinnis was the winning pitcher.
 
ASU recorded 15 hits as a team and committed six errors.
 
Albany State returns to action Saturday, April 4 when it hosts CAU with the doubleheader of the three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
