Golden Rams defeat rival Valdosta State

Box Score ALBANY- Sophomore Reise McDaniel recorded two hits and three RBIs to lead the Albany State Golden Rams to a 7-4 victory over rival Valdosta State. With the win, ASU improves to 19-14 on the season. The Blazers drop to 17-9 overall.

In very windy conditions, Valdosta State took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Albany State finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third thanks to multiple errors by the Blazers. Sable Gilliard scored off a wild pitch, and Ryan Latner came home off a baseman's error to tie the score at 2-2. Another VSU error brought McDaniel home, and the Golden Rams led 3-2 after the inning.

In the fourth inning, Valdosta State was able to tie the score at 3-3. McDaniel answered with a double that scored Ryan Latner, Hector Carrasquillo and Robert Latner for a 6-3 ASU advantage. VSU added a run in the top of the fifth inning to cut its deficit to 6-4.

The Golden Rams added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Jacob Campbell hit a double to score McDaniel to account for the final score.

Campbell added two hits for Albany State. Jared Arrington recorded the mound win, and Theo Tramontana was credited with the save.

The Golden Rams collected six hits and committed three errors for the game.

Albany State returns to action on Saturday, March 29 when it travels to Atlanta, Georgia to face the Morehouse Maroon Tigers in an SIAC weekend series. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m. Sunday's single contest will start at 1 p.m.
