Golden Rams Baseball calm Hurricanes

Box Score ALBANY- Center fielder Reise McDaniel and second baseman Ryan Latner each recorded two hits to lead the Albany State Golden Rams past Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes, 7-1. With the win, ASU improves to 5-9 on the season. GSW falls to 3-7.


Georgia Southwestern opened the scoring in the opening inning with an early 1-0 lead. Albany State would respond in the bottom of the first. Thanks to five consecutive walks by GSW, the Golden Rams took a 3-1 lead when McDaniel, Jacob Campbell and Allen Hardy scored.


In the bottom of the fifth inning, Albany State increased their lead when Andrew Bacon hit a double to score Campbell for a 4-1 lead. Bacon later scored off a Ryan Latner single to take a 5-1 advantage.


In the sixth inning, McDaniel recorded a double to score Bradley Piggee and Ryan Latner to give ASU a commanding lead.


McDaniel, Bacon and Robert Latner each recorded two RBIs. Allen Fender recorded the win for the Golden Rams, while Theo Tramontana got the save.


The Golden Rams recorded nine hits and committed one error for the game.


Albany State returns to action on Friday, February 21st when they travel to Tampa, Florida to face the University of Tampa in a weekend series. Friday will feature a doubleheader on Friday at 3 and 6 p.m. The series will end on Saturday with a single game at 12 p.m.
