ALBANY, Ga. — Albany State University head men's basketball coach Rodney Mayes has announced the addition of Jeremiah Wilson to the Golden Rams coaching staff. Wilson will officially join the program on August 13, 2026, entering his first season as an assistant coach.
Wilson brings extensive coaching and professional playing experience to Albany State. He most recently served as Interim Head Coach and Assistant Coach at South Suburban College, helping lead the program to the 2026 NJCAA Region 4 Championship. He also spent more than a decade playing professionally overseas in more than 16 countries.
"I am extremely excited to welcome Jeremiah Wilson to the Albany State University men's basketball program as an assistant coach. Jeremiah brings a tremendous combination of playing experience, basketball knowledge, leadership, and passion for developing young men," Head Men's Basketball Coach Rodney Mayes said.
"What stood out to me most about Jeremiah is his ability to connect with players and his genuine desire to help young men reach their full potential both on and off the court. He understands what it takes to compete at a high level, and he understands the importance of developing the total student-athlete," Mayes added.
Wilson has also dedicated significant time to youth development and education. He served as a Physical Education Teacher, Athletic Director, and Head Sports Coach at UCAN Academy in Chicago, where he oversees athletic programming and develops initiatives centered on teamwork, leadership, personal growth, and student engagement.
In 2016, Wilson founded The Grind Sports Foundation, a nonprofit organization focused on youth development through sports and mentorship. Through the organization, he has designed and led sports camps and leadership programs serving more than 500 youth participants, incorporating athletic development with leadership, resilience, career readiness, and life skills.
Wilson earned his bachelor's degree in Kinesiology from Tarleton State University and brings a strong background in player development, leadership, recruiting, and international basketball experience to the Golden Rams.
"We are building a championship culture at Albany State, and Jeremiah Wilson will be an important part of that process," Mayes said. "I look forward to the energy, experience, and leadership he will bring to Albany State University and Golden Rams basketball."
