Albany, Ga. — The Albany State men's and women's track & field teams excelled at the Annual Alice Coachman Invitational, each securing first place. The women scored 269 points, while the men finished with 129 points, achieving a successful home track sweep.
The meet was highlighted by a historic moment, as
Tyler Nonnombre etched his name into the record books with a school-record performance in the men's hammer throw. The senior's mark of 46.25 meters earned him a third-place finish and stood as a defining achievement of the day for Albany State.
The Lady Golden Rams showcased their depth and versatility, piling up points in sprints, distance events, relays, and field events.
In the field,
Cadence Tanner delivered a standout performance, claiming first-place finishes in both the long jump (5.49m) and high jump (1.55m), contributing valuable points to the team total.
Kaylee Holloway and
Sataria Cantrell led a strong showing in the hammer throw, finishing second and third, respectively, while
Skye Zwirner added points with a fifth-place finish.
On the track, Albany State's speed was on full display.
Cadence Cray led a Golden Rams sweep of the podium in the 100 meters with a winning time of 11.56, followed closely by Chavondria Crimes and
Princess Okoye. In the 200 meters, TyAsia Brown secured another first-place finish, continuing the team's sprint dominance.
The hurdles group also delivered, with
DeAna Albert capturing gold in the 100-meter hurdles (14.36), followed by strong finishes from Tanner and
Savannah Sparks. In the 400-meter hurdles, LaNia German placed second, adding to the team's point total.
Albany State's distance runners made a significant impact as well.
Brea Vann had an outstanding meet, winning both the 1500 meters (4:57.18) and 800 meters (2:21.86), while also capturing first in the 5000 meters to complete a remarkable triple victory.
Sydney Haywood and
Faith Thompson added key finishes in the distance events to round out a dominant showing.
The Lady Golden Rams also excelled in relays, winning the 4x100-meter relay (46.90) and taking first and second in the 4x400-meter relay, further highlighting their depth and teamwork.
On the men's side, the Golden Rams combined standout individual efforts with strong relay performances to secure the team title.
In addition to Nonnombre's record-setting day in the hammer throw,
Michael Trimble added valuable points with a third-place finish in the discus and fourth in the hammer throw, contributing to a strong showing in the throws.
On the track,
Mohamed Bah led the way with a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (54.28) and a runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdles.
Carsyn Lewis followed closely with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, giving Albany State a strong presence in the event.
The sprint group continued to perform at a high level, with
Sanaljay Bentley placing second in the 100 meters, while
Adoni Nembhard-Belcher added a second-place finish in the 200 meters.
In the field events, freshman LaRon Coley impressed with a third-place finish in the long jump and fourth in the triple jump, showcasing his versatility and potential.
Albany State's relay teams capped off the meet in dominant fashion, with the A team winning the 4x400-meter relay (3:17.85) and the B team securing second place, sealing the team victory.
With momentum on their side, the Golden Rams will now shift their focus toward the SIAC Track & Field Championships, set for April 20–23 in Columbia, S.C., where they will look to carry this same energy and success into postseason competition.
