Golden Rams Deliver Strong Showing at Morehouse Relays

Atlanta, Ga. — Over the course of three competitive days at the annual Morehouse Relays, the Albany State men's and women's track & field teams turned in an impressive all-around performance, highlighted by multiple event wins, podium finishes, and a strong team presence. The Lady Golden Rams powered their way to a second-place finish, while the men secured fourth place in a deep and talented field.
 
The weekend was defined by standout individual efforts and a balanced team approach, with Albany State athletes making their mark across sprints, distance events, field events, and relays.
 
On the women's side, the Lady Golden Rams showcased both speed and versatility. Cadence Cray led the charge in the sprints, capturing first place in both the 100-meter dash (11.81) and 200-meter dash (24.10), establishing herself as one of the top performers of the meet. She was joined by Chavondria Crimes, who placed second in the 100 meters, and TyAsia Brown, who secured a runner-up finish in the 200 meters, giving Albany State a strong presence in the finals.
 
In the field, Kaylee Holloway delivered a dominant performance, winning the discus throw with a mark of 43.86 meters while also placing second in the shot put. Skye Zwirner added to the momentum with a second-place finish in the javelin, while Cadence Tanner soared to a first-place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.66 meters.
 
The Lady Golden Rams also excelled in distance events, with Faith Thompson earning a second-place finish in the 10,000-meter run and Sydney Haywood contributing valuable points in both the 1500-meter and 5000-meter runs. Brea Vann added a strong fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, highlighting the team's depth across disciplines.
 
In the multi-events, DeAna Albert delivered one of the most impressive performances of the meet, finishing second overall in the heptathlon. Albert captured first-place finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash, setting the tone for a consistent and high-scoring performance. Savannah Sparks also turned in a solid showing, finishing fifth overall, while Jasiyah McCutchen added to the team's point total with a seventh-place finish.
 
The Lady Golden Rams capped off their performance with a first-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay, clocking in at 46.06, further emphasizing their dominance in sprint events.
 
On the men's side, the Golden Rams displayed speed, strength, and endurance throughout the meet. Jace Weaver highlighted the weekend with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash (10.66), while Sanaljay Bentley added a fourth-place finish in the same event after posting the fastest preliminary time.
 
Adoni Nembhard-Belcher delivered another standout performance, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.37, showcasing his strength on the track. The Golden Rams also found success in middle-distance events, with Bangally Touray placing third in both the 800 meters and 1500 meters, while Rayshawn Goodman added a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters.
 
In the field events, Michael Trimble led the way with a second-place finish in the shot put, while Tyler Nonnombre and Trimble both placed in the hammer throw, contributing valuable team points. Jamari Craig added a top-five finish in the discus to round out a strong showing in the throws.
 
The men's relay teams also made a statement, with the 4x100-meter relay team capturing first place with a time of 41.69. The 4x400-meter relay team added a fourth-place finish to cap off the meet.
 
In the decathlon, freshman Skyler Pittman delivered a well-rounded performance, finishing fourth overall and placing in multiple events, including a second-place finish in the high jump and top-three finishes in the long jump, 400 meters, pole vault, and javelin.
 
With strong performances across the board and contributions from both seasoned athletes and newcomers, Albany State demonstrated its depth and competitiveness throughout the meet.
 
Up next, the Golden Rams will look to carry this momentum into the Legends Invite in Carrollton, Ga., hosted by the University of West Georgia on April 3-4.

ABOUT ALBANY STATE ATHLETICS
Albany State University is a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II-level intercollegiate athletic program. The university currently fields teams in 11 sports: women's volleyball, women's tennis, women's cross country, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's track and field, women's soccer, baseball, and football, with all teams competing in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), except women's soccer, which participates in the Peach Belt Conference.
