Box Score 2 Birmingham, Ala. — The Albany State Lady Golden Rams opened play at the SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament with a split on day one, defeating Miles College 8–4 before falling to Spring Hill 17–1 later in the day. Albany State showcased strong offense and solid pitching in the opening game and will look to build on that momentum as the tournament continues.
Game 1: Albany State 8, Miles College 4
The Lady Golden Rams began the day with a strong offensive performance, collecting nine hits and taking advantage of timely hitting to secure an 8–4 victory over Miles College.
Albany State struck first in the second inning when
Kaylah Howard singled to shortstop to bring home
Tranasia Parker, giving the Lady Golden Rams an early 1–0 lead. Miles responded in the third inning to briefly take a 2–1 advantage, but Albany State quickly answered when
Abbigale Jones launched a solo home run to left field, tying the game at 2–2.
After Miles regained the lead in the fourth inning, Albany State delivered the biggest swing of the game in the fifth. With the bases loaded,
Tranasia Parker blasted a three-run home run to center field, driving in
Kyla Fitch,
Brielle Thompson, and
Avery Fisher to give the Lady Golden Rams a 6–3 lead.
Miles added a run in the sixth inning, but Albany State responded immediately. Jones sparked the rally with a bunt single that helped push across a run, while Fisher later crossed the plate following a throwing error to extend the lead to 8–4. Parker had a standout performance at the plate, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored, while Jones added two hits, including a home run, and Fisher contributed two hits and two runs scored.
In the circle,
McKenzie Fitch delivered another strong outing, pitching a complete game to improve to 9–1 on the season. Fitch allowed four runs on eleven hits while keeping Miles off balance throughout the game.
Game 2: Spring Hill 17, Albany State 1
The Lady Golden Rams faced a tough matchup against Spring Hill in the second game of the day. Albany State recorded its lone hit of the contest from
Arianah McKenzie, who led the team offensively.
Albany State's run came in the second inning when
Amari Mapps drew a lead-off walk and later scored after
Tranasia Parker reached base on a Spring Hill error, allowing Mapps to cross the plate.
The Lady Golden Rams continued to compete throughout the game as they concluded the first day of tournament play.
Up Next, Albany State will return to action on Day 2 of the SIAC Softball Crossover Tournament on Wednesday. The Lady Golden Rams are scheduled to face Tuskegee University at 12:30 p.m., followed by a matchup against Lane College at 3:00 p.m.
