Albany, Ga. — The Albany State Lady Golden Rams closed out their weekend series with a hard-fought 4-3 contest against Fort Valley State on Senior Day, ultimately securing an impressive
2-1 series victory at the ASU Softball Field.
The Lady Golden Rams struck first in the third inning, as Ari McKenzie delivered a sacrifice fly to bring home
Erielle Reid, who reached earlier and showcased aggressive baserunning with a triple. Albany State continued to apply pressure at the plate, staying competitive throughout against a tough Fort Valley lineup.
In the circle,
McKenzie Fitch delivered another complete-game effort, working efficiently through seven innings and keeping the game within reach. Her composure and consistency once again gave Albany State a chance to compete deep into the contest.
Trailing late, the Lady Golden Rams showed the fight that has defined their season. In the seventh inning,
Tranasia Parker stepped up in a clutch moment and launched a two-run home run, cutting the deficit to just one and energizing the home crowd. It was a powerful reminder of Albany State's ability to respond under pressure and never back down.
Offensively,
Kaylah Howard led the way with a multi-hit performance, while contributions from Reid, McKenzie, Nervis, and
Kyla Fitch helped keep the lineup active and engaged throughout the game.
More importantly, the weekend belonged to the Lady Golden Rams. After sweeping day one of the series, Albany State secured the
conference series win, continuing to build momentum at a crucial point in the season.
Senior Day added another layer of significance, as the Lady Golden Rams honored a group whose leadership and dedication have helped shape the program. Their impact was evident not only in this series win but throughout the season.
Up next, Albany State will remain at home as they prepare for their final non-conference matchup of the regular season, welcoming Trinity College of Jacksonville on April 23 at 1:00 p.m.
