Columbus, Ga. — The Lady Golden Rams of Albany State University concluded their 2026 season on Day 2 of the SIAC Softball Championship Tournament, falling 2-0 to Tuskegee University at the South Commons Softball Complex.
While the postseason run concluded Tuesday, Albany State's season will be remembered as one of consistency, growth, and championship-level success. The Lady Golden Rams finished the year with an impressive 34-11 overall record, a 19-5 conference mark, and the distinction of being SIAC Eastern Division Champions.
Albany State once again showed resilience throughout the contest, battling inning by inning against a strong Tuskegee squad. The Lady Golden Rams remained within striking distance from start to finish thanks to another steady performance in the circle from freshman standout
McKenzie Fitch.
Fitch delivered a complete-game effort, pitching all seven innings while limiting Tuskegee to just five hits and two runs, only one of which was earned. Her composure and consistency kept Albany State competitive throughout the afternoon and capped an outstanding freshman campaign that established her as one of the conference's top pitchers.
Defensively, the Lady Golden Rams remained sharp behind Fitch, recording key outs and limiting opportunities across seven innings. Albany State's defense consistently responded under pressure, helping keep the game close deep into the later innings.
Offensively, Albany State collected four hits and continued to compete at the plate against one of the conference's top pitching staffs.
Erielle Reid,
Arianah McKenzie,
Avrey Fisher, and
Mackenzie Nervis each recorded hits for the Lady Golden Rams. McKenzie and Nervis both delivered doubles, while Reid added a stolen base to help generate momentum offensively.
Although the tournament run came to an end, the Lady Golden Rams leave Columbus with a season filled with accomplishments and milestones.
Albany State captured the SIAC Eastern Division title, consistently ranked among the conference's top teams, and showcased a blend of experienced leadership and emerging young talent throughout the season. The program's strong finish reflected its competitiveness within the conference and continued growth under pressure.
