Golden Rams’ Road Run Halted in Loss at Lane

Jackson, Tenn. — Albany State's six-game winning streak came to an end Monday night as the Golden Rams fell 92–72 to Lane College in SIAC action inside J.F. Lane Gymnasium. The loss drops Albany State to 6–6 overall and 5–3 in conference play after a challenging road test against the Dragons.

Albany State competed from the opening tip, matching Lane's intensity early and trading baskets throughout the first half. The Golden Rams showed confidence offensively in the opening period, knocking down shots from the perimeter and attacking the paint to keep the game within reach. Albany State connected on five three-pointers in the first half and stayed aggressive, getting to the free-throw line, converting 12 free throws before the break.

Kendale Johnson led the way with 14 points, adding three assists and steady perimeter shooting, while Shakur Poteat provided a strong two-way effort with 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Jeremiah Edwards added 11 points, shooting efficiently from the field and contributing defensively with three steals.

The Golden Rams also found success sharing the ball, recording 12 assists, and showed commitment on the defensive end by forcing 14 steals, turning defense into transition opportunities whenever possible. Zach Reinhart played a steady role at the point, finishing with seven points and four assists, while Joseph Frazier contributed valuable minutes and six points off the bench.

Albany State battled on the glass, pulling down 26 rebounds, with multiple players contributing to the team's rebounding and second-chance opportunities. The Golden Rams' effort never wavered, even as Lane built momentum in the second half.

While the final score did not reflect the Golden Rams' competitiveness, the performance showcased Albany State's depth, defensive activity, and willingness to compete in a hostile road environment. The game also provided valuable lessons as conference play continues to tighten.
