Golden Rams Rally in Second Half to Take Down Kentucky State, 76–67

Albany, Ga. — Trailing at the break and searching for rhythm, the Albany State men's basketball team flipped the script in the second half Thursday night, battling past Kentucky State for a 76–67 SIAC victory inside the Arena at West Campus. The win lifts the Golden Rams to 7–6 overall and 6–3 in conference play, as Albany State once again showed its grit when it mattered most.

Kentucky State carried a slim 35–33 halftime lead, capitalizing on early shooting struggles by Albany State. The Golden Rams shot just 10 percent from three-point range in the opening half and left points at the free-throw line, but they never let the game get away—setting the stage for a composed and confident second-half surge.

That surge was sparked by energy off the bench and sharper execution on both ends of the floor.

Khimani Hopkinson delivered a breakout performance, leading all scorers with 20 points on an efficient 9-of-13 shooting. His ability to score in traffic and finish strong around the rim gave Albany State a steady offensive anchor when momentum began to swing.

Shakur Poteat followed with a strong all-around effort, finishing with 19 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. Poteat attacked the basket relentlessly, going 8-of-9 from the free-throw line, and helped control the pace as the Golden Rams took command late.

The turning point came midway through the second half, when Albany State tightened defensively and turned stops into offense. The Golden Rams outscored the Thorobreds 43–32 after halftime, shooting 55.6 percent from the field and knocking down timely perimeter shots after struggling from deep earlier in the game.

Cameron Evans added 11 points in just 17 minutes, providing instant offense off the bench, while Zachary Reinhart chipped in five points and steady guard play. Albany State's depth proved decisive, as the bench accounted for 41 points, overwhelming Kentucky State and fueling the comeback.

Inside, Albany State controlled the paint, scoring 42 points in the lane and forcing turnovers that led to 24 points off miscues. Defensively, the Golden Rams stayed active, forcing tough shots and limiting second-chance opportunities.

Once Albany State grabbed the lead, it never relinquished it. Calm possessions, strong free-throw shooting in the final minutes, and disciplined defense sealed the win in front of the home crowd.
