Albany, Ga. – The Albany State women's volleyball team opened SIAC play in dominant fashion Friday night, sweeping Allen University 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-19) inside the Jones Brothers HPER Complex. With the win, the Lady Golden Rams improve to 2-8 overall and 1-0 in SIAC action, while extending their all-time series lead over the Lady Yellow Jackets to 9-0. Allen drops to 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.
The Lady Golden Rams displayed grit and poise in front of a supportive home crowd of 315, edging out Allen in a tight opening set, 25-22. Albany State followed up with another close 25-23 win in the second set before closing out the match with a strong 25-19 finish in the third.
Jarianis Perez led the offensive attack with nine kills and added two service aces for 11 points.
Shaniya Banks and
Maya Ogbogu each contributed six and seven kills, respectively, while freshman standout
Kaylin Teasley provided a spark with five kills on an impressive .444 hitting percentage, along with three key blocks. Libero
Talia Smith anchored the back row with a match-high 18 digs and six service aces, while setter
MiMi Harris kept the offense balanced, tallying 14 assists.
Defensively, Albany State controlled the net with three solo blocks and four block assists, limiting Allen to just a .040 hitting percentage across the match. The Lady Golden Rams closed with their best performance in the third set, hitting .310 as a team.
With the win, Albany State extends its dominance in the series against Allen and builds momentum heading into a busy week.
