Albany, Ga. – The Albany State women's soccer team made a statement in their 2025 home opener, defeating LaGrange College 3-0 on Wednesday night at the ASU Soccer Complex. The victory marked the Lady Golden Rams' first win of the season, improving them to 1-2 overall, while the Lady Panthers fell to 2-5-1.
Albany State set the tone early with an aggressive attack and sharp execution in the first half. In the 25th minute,
Aixa Barrera broke through the defense to score her first goal of the season, finishing off a clean assist from
Jada Thompson. The Golden Rams doubled their lead just over 12 minutes later when
Sinatra Vaughn found the back of the net at 37:53, assisted by
Jordyn Keene, giving ASU a commanding 2-0 advantage at halftime.
LaGrange appeared to gain momentum in the second half when Hannah New struck a shot on goal in the 58th minute, but was unable to score, preserving ASU's clean sheet. Albany State sealed the win in the 79th minute as
Nelia Dailey capitalized on an opportunity and delivered an unassisted goal, extending the lead to 3-0 and energizing the home crowd.
Offensively, the Golden Rams were led by
Jada Goodman, who recorded four shots, while Vaughn added three shots with two on target to fuel the attack. In goal, Leire Rodriguez Najera anchored the defense with four saves, earning her first shutout of the season.
