Albany, GA – The Albany State University softball team is gearing up for one of the most anticipated matchups of the season as they head to Fort Valley, Georgia to take on longtime conference rival Fort Valley State University in a key three-game SIAC series. The action begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 12, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM, and concludes with a single game on Sunday, April 13 at 1:00 PM.

The Lady Golden Rams (20-10, 11-5 SIAC) enter the weekend riding high after a 3-0 series sweep over Clark Atlanta at home. The dominant performance extended Albany State's momentum as they look to strengthen their postseason positioning with just a few series remaining.

Meanwhile, the Lady Wildcats (17-19, 12-9 SIAC) are seeking a bounce-back performance after dropping both games of a midweek doubleheader against Columbus State on April 9. With the rivalry stakes high and conference standings on the line, Fort Valley will be hungry to defend their home turf.

This weekend's matchup reignites one of the SIAC's fiercest rivalries. The Lady Golden Rams have historically controlled the series, owning a 32-10 record against Fort Valley State dating back to March 10, 2012.
However, the recent meetings have been competitive. In their last encounter on April 29, 2024, during the SIAC Tournament, Fort Valley handed Albany State a 6-10 loss. Just a week prior, the Lady Wildcats also claimed a 2-1 series win over the Golden Rams in the regular season.

With redemption on their minds, Albany State will look to reclaim bragging rights and continue their strong form in this pivotal road test.
