Lady Golden Rams Take Series Victory Over Savannah State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 Savannah, GA - The Albany State Lady Golden Rams clinched a 2-1 series win over Savannah State in a tightly contested three-game showdown in Savannah, GA. With the series victory, the Lady Golden Rams improved to 7-6 overall and 4-2 in SIAC play, while the Lady Tigers dropped to 7-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
 
Game 1: Albany State Falls Short in 8-7 Battle
In a thrilling series opener, Albany State and Savannah State traded blows, but the Lady Golden Rams ultimately fell short in an 8-7 defeat. Despite a strong offensive performance that saw ASU rack up 15 hits, Savannah State capitalized on key moments to edge out the win.
 
Albany State found themselves in an early hole, as Savannah State put up three runs in the first inning. However, the Lady Golden Rams responded in the third inning when Avery Fisher's two-run single put ASU on the board. The Lady Tigers continued to apply pressure, scoring two more runs in the fourth and two in the fifth.
 
Trailing 7-2 in the sixth inning, ASU mounted a comeback effort. A costly defensive error by Savannah State allowed three Albany State runs to score, cutting the deficit to 7-5. In the final frame, Madison Hurt reached on an error, which allowed the tying run to score. However, Savannah State answered immediately, securing the walk-off victory in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Game 2: Lady Golden Rams Respond with Gritty 3-2 Victory
Game two saw Albany State bounce back with a narrow 3-2 win, thanks to clutch hitting and dominant pitching performances from Kaliyah Smith Barnes and Aniyah Dixon.
 
Savannah State jumped out to an early lead, scoring in both the first and second innings to take a 2-0 advantage. However, ASU's offense responded in the fifth inning when Keyatta Ayers ripped an RBI triple, followed by a groundout that tied the game at 2-2.
 
The decisive moment came in the top of the seventh, as Ayers once again delivered in the clutch, knocking a two-out RBI single to center field, bringing home the game-winning run.
 
On the mound, Barnes tossed five strong innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run while striking out eight. Dixon entered in relief and slammed the door shut, pitching two perfect innings to seal the victory.
 
 
Game 3: Dominant Seventh Inning Fuels Lady Golden Rams to 8-2 Victory
The series finale saw Albany State take control late, using a massive seventh inning to secure an 8-2 victory and clinch the series win.
 
ASU struck first in the opening inning, scoring two runs on a pair of groundouts to take a 2-0 lead. Both teams remained locked in a pitcher's duel until the final frame when the Lady Golden Rams erupted for six runs. The scoring explosion was highlighted by an RBI single from Ayers, a two-run double by Romona McLeod, and a two-run triple from Fisher.

On the mound, Trista Murphy was dominant, tossing a complete game, allowing just two earned runs on five hits while striking out four.

With the series win, the Lady Golden Rams will shift their focus to the upcoming SIAC Crossover Tournament in Birmingham, AL, from March 11-13, where they will look to build on their momentum and continue their strong conference play.
