This Week in Albany State Athletics!

Albany, Ga. - The Golden Rams enter a new week of competition riding momentum across multiple sports after a strong finish to last week's slate. Women's soccer officially concluded its season, closing the week with a 1-1 record. Women's volleyball also went 1-1, while Golden Rams football capped things off in thrilling fashion—defeating Savannah State to clinch a berth to host the 2025 SIAC Football Championship at ASU Coliseum.

This week's action begins on Tuesday, Nov. 4, as the Lady Golden Rams volleyball team hits the road for a non-conference matchup against Middle Georgia State in Cochran, Ga. The team will then wrap up its non-conference schedule with a tri-match against Clinton College and Point University on Friday, Nov. 7, in West Point, Ga.

The Women's Cross Country team returns to competition this week as well, turning its attention toward regional preparation with high expectations after a season of consistent progress and growth.

Meanwhile, the Golden Rams football team will shift focus to one of the most anticipated rivalries of the year, the 35th Annual Fountain City Classic, as they square off against Fort Valley State in Columbus, Ga. The stakes remain high as Albany State looks to keep its winning momentum alive heading into championship week.

The week concludes on a celebratory note as the Lady Golden Rams volleyball team returns home to The ASU West Arena to host Benedict College on Sunday, Nov. 9, for Senior Day. Fans are encouraged to come out and honor the senior class as they play their final home match of the season.
Volleyball  Preview: Lady Golden Rams Set for a Busy Week of Competition
The Albany State University Lady Golden Rams are gearing up for a packed week of volleyball action, featuring three non-conference matches before returning home for a key SIAC matchup to close out the weekend.

First up, the Lady Golden Rams will travel to Cochran, Ga., to take on the Middle Georgia State Lady Knights on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Albany State enters the contest holding a 4-1 all-time series lead over Middle Georgia State, including a thrilling 3-2 victory earlier this season. The Lady Golden Rams will look to build on that success and continue their strong play as the regular season winds down.

After a few days of rest and preparation, Albany State will head to West Point, Ga., for a tri-match against Clinton College and Point University on Friday, Nov. 7. This marks the first-ever meeting between the Lady Golden Rams and both programs—the Lady Bears of Clinton College and the Lady Skyhawks of Point University—setting the stage for an exciting new non-conference test.

The Lady Golden Rams will then return home to The ASU West Arena on Sunday, Nov. 9, to resume conference play against Benedict College in a Senior Day showdown. Albany State dominated the earlier meeting this season, sweeping the Lady Tigers 3-0 in Columbia, S.C. The team will aim to replicate that performance as they honor their seniors and close out the regular season in front of their home crowd. With momentum on their side and postseason play on the horizon, the Lady Golden Rams will look to finish the week strong and continue their push toward conference success.
Women's Cross-Country Preview: Lady Golden Rams Set for NCAA DII South Regional Meet
The Albany State University Lady Golden Rams Cross Country team is ready to return to action this weekend as they compete in the 2025 NCAA Division II South Regional Meet. After capturing the 2025 SIAC Women's Cross Country Championship, the Lady Golden Rams took a well-deserved week off to rest, recover, and prepare for the next challenge on the national stage.

This year's regional meet will be held at Holloway Park in Lakeland, Florida, and hosted by Florida Southern College. The women's 6K race is scheduled to begin at 6:20 a.m., followed by the men's 10K race at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.

The Lady Golden Rams enter regionals with strong momentum and confidence following their dominant conference performance, where multiple runners turned in personal bests and helped secure Albany State's first SIAC title since the program's resurgence. Under the leadership of their coaching staff, the team has emphasized consistency, endurance, and teamwork—qualities that will be essential against a competitive regional field.

With the opportunity to qualify for the NCAA DII National Championships on the line, the Lady Golden Rams are focused and determined to make their mark among the South Region's best programs. All eyes will be on Albany State this Saturday as the Lady Golden Rams look to continue their historic season and represent the SIAC with pride at Holloway Park.
Football Game Preview: Albany State Set to Face Rival Fort Valley State in the 35th Fountain City Classic
The stage is set for one of the most storied rivalries in HBCU football as the Albany State University Golden Rams prepare to take on the Fort Valley State University Wildcats in the 35th Annual Fountain City Classic. The matchup is set for Saturday, Nov. 8, in Columbus, Ga., and will once again bring together two proud programs competing for bragging rights and postseason momentum.

The all-time series between the Golden Rams and Wildcats is as close as it gets, with Fort Valley State holding a narrow 42-41-4 edge. However, in recent years, Albany State has dominated the rivalry, winning 10 of the last 12 meetings since 2011. This year's contest adds another layer of excitement as both teams enter with plenty at stake.

Albany State comes into the game undefeated in conference play and currently ranked as the No. 1 team in the SIAC after an impressive road victory over Savannah State that clinched their berth to host the 2025 SIAC Football Championship. The Golden Rams will look to carry that momentum into Columbus and close out the regular season strong before championship week. Fort Valley State, meanwhile, enters the contest fresh off a big Senior Day win over Miles College, giving the Wildcats a boost of confidence heading into one of the most emotional games of their season.

As always, the Fountain City Classic promises to deliver high energy, hard-hitting football, and passionate fan support on both sides. With championship implications for Albany State and pride on the line for both programs, Saturday's showdown is set to be another memorable chapter in one of Division II's premier rivalries.
