MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Albany State University women's volleyball team closed out the SIAC West Cluster Crossover Tournament with a hard-fought effort on Day 2, falling to perennial conference power Spring Hill College in four sets (17-25, 22-25, 25-16, 16-25). With the loss, the Lady Golden Rams finished the weekend 2-1, improving to 9-10 overall and 8-2 in SIAC play.
The Lady Golden Rams showed grit and determination against one of the toughest programs in the conference, bouncing back from a two-set deficit to claim the third set in dominant fashion before ultimately falling short in the fourth.
Jarianis Perez once again led the offensive charge, finishing with 13 kills and 12 digs for another double-double performance.
Shaniya Banks and
Josiya Teague added 11 and 10 kills, respectively, giving the Golden Rams a balanced attack at the net.
Defensively,
Kaylin Teasley anchored the front line with five blocks, while Banks contributed four and
Maya Ogbogu added three to help limit the Badgers' offensive rhythm.
Natalie Onozie directed the offense with 19 assists, while
Liannette Burgos added 17 to complement the Rams' tempo. In the back row,
Talia Smith tallied 11 digs along with two aces, while Perez's all-around effort helped keep Albany State competitive throughout the match.
Despite the setback, the Lady Golden Rams demonstrated strong chemistry and resilience throughout the weekend, marking a successful showing in Memphis with two key conference wins and a spirited battle against one of the SIAC's top contenders.
Up Next: Albany State remains on the road, traveling to Columbia, S.C., to face Benedict College on Tuesday, October 14, at 6:00 PM as they continue SIAC play and look to get back in the win column.
