COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Albany State Lady Golden Rams volleyball team continued their strong conference play with a commanding 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 29-27) victory over the Benedict College Lady Tigers on Wednesday night inside HRC Arena. With the win, Albany State improves to 10-10 overall and 9-2 in SIAC play, while Benedict falls to 13-4 and 7-3 in conference competition.
From the opening serve, the Lady Golden Rams showcased their offensive rhythm and defensive poise.
Jarianis Perez led the way with a match-high 18 kills, adding seven digs and two service aces to fuel Albany State's sweep.
Josiya Teague was equally impressive on the attack, recording 16 kills, one block, and steady play at the net.
Shaniya Banks added five kills to round out a balanced front-line effort.
Albany State's defense and serve-receive execution proved pivotal, with
Myra Lopez anchoring the back row with 16 digs and one ace.
Natalie Onozie contributed a well-rounded performance, tallying 11 assists and 10 digs, while
Liannette Burgos added 12 assists to keep the offense in rhythm.
Kaylin Teasley and
Maya Ogbogu combined for key blocks to halt Benedict's late rallies in the third set.
The Lady Golden Rams closed out the night in dramatic fashion, edging Benedict 29-27 in a tightly contested third set to seal the sweep. The win not only extends Albany State's conference success but also reinforces their reputation as one of the league's most resilient teams.
