Lady Ram Six Top 3 Finishes Propel Team to SIAC Women’s Team Track & Field Title

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Lady Rams emerged victorious as CHAMPIONS of the 2024 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track & Field Championship, propelled by a combined effort in both field events and running competitions across three days of intense competition.

Building upon their outstanding performances from Days 1 and 2, Albany State clinched the championship with two first-place finishes and an impressive total of six top 3 finishes. The cumulative effort of the field events and the final day's running events propelled the team to victory.

On Day 1, Mykhayla Carroll made her mark as the first Golden Ram to secure points with her first-place finish in the hammer throw, launching the team's success. Levita Williams also contributed with a strong fourth-place finish in the discus event, setting the stage for the Lady Rams' dominance.

Sydney Blackburn continued the momentum on Day 2 by claiming first place in the discus event, followed closely by Carroll's second-place finish, bolstering the team's position. DeAna Albert soared to victory in the pole vault, while Janiya Harris showcased her talent with a commendable sixth-place finish in the same event.

Zenay Rhaney showcased her prowess by securing the 1500-meter title in a remarkable time of 5:04.80, followed by another gold in the 800-meter event with a time of 2:23.74, contributing 20 points to the ASU team single-handedly.

Nathalia Rowe delivered a stellar performance, claiming the runner-up position in the 400-meter hurdle event with a time of 1:01.94.

In the relay events, the Lady Ram teams displayed exceptional teamwork, securing second place in both the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays.

Juliana Kern soared to a third-place finish in the high jump, adding to the team's tally of top 3 finishes. Additionally, Kaleah Kleckley demonstrated her versatility by winning the heptathlon, while Taniyah Kelley showcased her skills with a commendable fifth-place finish in the triple jump.

With this impressive array of accomplishments, ASU maintained its position at the top of the SIAC team rankings with 154 points, a significant 37 points ahead of second-place Benedict College (117), with Clark Atlanta trailing in third place with 104.50 points.

The ASU national qualifiers will now have a month's respite before gearing up for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for May 23-25 in Emporia, KS.
