Moore Leads the Men at CAU Panther Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. –
Against regional competition, the Lady Rams more than held their own in a strong field. Albany State's Sydney Blackburn and Mykhayla Carroll posted a quality women's track and field effort and Kibren Moore guided the men's side at the Clark Atlanta Panther Invitational Saturday.

 

Blackburn and Carroll combined for two first places, a second, two thirds and a fifth place finish in the women's throwing events pacing the ASU ranks. Moore raced to the top finish in the men's 200 meters and a sixth in the 400 meters as the best Golden Ram day.

 

Taking the top three in each of her three events, Blackburn threw the best length by over 8.74 meters with a throw of 44.58 meters to win the discus. She was second in the hammer throw at 38.95m and third in the shot put (11.44m). Right along with Blackburn, Carroll claimed the hammer throw with a distance of 39.13m, while he was third in the discus (35.40m) and fifth in the shot put (11.24m).

 

Completing the women's field events, Taniyah Kelley lept to a length of 10.79 meters for third in the triple jump. Juliana Kern jumped to a height of 1.46 meter in the high jump for fourth and Levita Williams was the third Lady Ram on the discus podium with fifth (33.89m).

 

Both of the ASU women's relays shown well passing the baton. In the 4x100-meter relay, the quartet of Kelley teamed up with Imani Jones, Mayah Thompson and Kennedy Simmons in the second-best time of 49.08. Then, in the 4x400-meter relay, Simmons and Thompson ran the first and anchor legs with Sierra Beasley and Azzaria Brown between for fourth in the event (4:17.17).

 

Nathalia Rowe recorded the Lady Rams' other top placing with a second of the 400 meters in 57.77 and she added a fifth in the shorter 200-meter dash of 25.98. For the 100-meter hurdles, Thompson, Janiya Harris and Kaleah Kleckley was bunched together in third (15.86), fourth (16.16) and sixth (16.38). Along with their 100-meter spring finishes, both Thompson and Harris were in the top 400-meter hurdle times with 1:11.34 (5th) and 1:11.61 (6th).

 

Kelley sprinted her way to sixth in the 100-meter dash of 12.55 to go with her triple jump outing. Zanya Raney ran a time of 20:06.74 for sixth in the 5000 meters, while Cadence Cray rounded out the Lady Rams with eighth for the 200 meters (26.22).

 

On the men's side, ASU was led by Moore and his top 200-meter dash finish of 21.44 and he added a sixth place in the 400-meters (50.30). After two first places last weekend, Ed Gilbert registered the runner-up place behind Moore in 21.23.

 

Ahead of Moore in the 400 meters, Jordan Smith ran through the finish in 49.84. Completing the ASU track placings, Jonathan Kelly logged a time of 1:59.65 for eighth in the 800 meters.

 

In the field events, the Golden Rams had a pair of top eight finishers. Jayvon Hutchinson jumped 6.37 meters for fourth in the long jump, while Isaac Moody threw 38.48 meters for eighth in the hammer throw.

 

ASU returns to Atlanta next Friday, March 17, when its track & field squads take part in the Emory University Opener.
