The Albany State University softball team shined at the CIAA/SIAC Challenge in Spartanburg, SC, at Tyger River Park. Finishing the weekend with a strong 5-1 record, the Golden Rams showed off their skills and teamwork against tough competitors.

The weekend started with a bang as the team secured a 9-0 win against Fayetteville State University, thanks to Trista Murphy's pitching, allowing only two hits. Madison Hurt added firepower, going 3-for-5 and driving in two runs.

Despite a challenging 1-9 loss to Bowie State University, Romona McLeod hit a perfect 3-for-3, with Hurt adding two hits. The team quickly rebounded, showcasing their resilience and strength.

They racked up wins against Claflin University (14-10), Lincoln University (8-0), Shaw University (14-2), and Bluefield State University (4-3), proving their tenacity.

McLeod stood out in the 14-2 victory over Shaw, not only winning as pitcher but also hitting 4-for-4, including two doubles and five RBIs.

The weekend wrapped up with a nail-biter against Bluefield State University. Kaliyah Smith pitched a complete game, and Morgan Brown's walk-off single, driving in McLeod, sealed a 4-3 win.

Coach Jason Bryant praised the team, saying, "Our players displayed amazing determination and focus. It was a collective effort, and I'm proud of how we came together. We're ready to keep this momentum going."

Next up, the Golden Rams (7-5, 0-0 SIAC) host Paine College in a doubleheader on Wednesday, February 21st, at 1 pm and 3 pm at the ASU West Campus Softball Complex. Fans are encouraged to come and support as the team aims to keep their winning streak alive.
