The Albany State Golden Rams softball team defeated the Miles College Golden Bears (11-2) in round one of the 2023 SIAC Softball Tournament at the Gordon Sports Complex. But, the Golden Rams lost (3-1) to the Spring Hill College Badgers in round two.
In game 1, the Golden Rams started fast as they jumped out to a (10-0) lead over the Golden Bears. In the 1
st inning,
Glory Seay hit a 2-run homer over the left field fence to give the Golden Rams a (4-0) lead. Trista Murphy hit her first collegiate home run as she blasted a 3-run homer over the left field fence to extend the lead to (10-0). That was more than enough runs as the Golden Rams cruised to an (11-2) victory in round one. Trista Murphy was the winner pitcher for the Golden Rams.
In game 2, the Golden Rams lost a heartbreaker (3-1) to the Spring Hill College Badgers. Trailing (2-0) in the 5
th inning, Romona McLeod hit a single to score
Madison Hurt to cut the lead to (2-1). But, that's as close as the Golden Rams would get. Romona McLeod and Mackenzie Chamblee pitched all 7 innings for the Golden Rams and only surrendered 5 hits to the Badgers. The Golden Rams had 7 hits but couldn't overcome 5 fielding errors in the game.
The Golden Rams will play the winner between Fort Valley State and Lane on Wednesday at 11:00 am.
