In a highly competitive game, the Albany State Golden Rams volleyball team outlasted the Clark-Atlanta University Panthers on Tuesday evening at The Jones Brothers Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex.
With the win, the Golden Rams improved to (11-10) overall and (11-1) in the SIAC. The Panthers fell to (10-7) overall and (7-3) in the conference.
In set 1, the Golden Rams needed overtime to defeat the Panthers (27-25). The Golden Rams were down early and didn't take the lead until late against the Panthers. But, the Golden Rams settled down and won the set.
Once again, the Golden Rams and Panthers battled toe to toe in set 2. In a very spirited set, the Panthers defeated the Golden Rams (34-32).
The Golden Rams took charge in set 3. After jumping out to a (22-15) lead, the Golden Rams won (25-18).
In set 4, the Golden Rams closed out the game by defeating the Panthers (25-17).
As a team, the Golden Rams finished with 71 points, 50 kills, 14 aces, 7 blocks, 47 assists and 60 digs.
Jarianis Perez led the Golden Rams with 14 kills.
Sydney Melton finished with 6 aces and 15 digs to lead the Golden Rams.
Khamari Trotter led the Golden Rams with 5 blocks.
MiMi Harris and
Natalie Onozie both led the Golden Rams with 20 assists each.
The Panthers finished with 61 points, 49 kills, 7 aces, 5 blocks, 46 assists and 58 digs. Shynique McGhee led the Panthers with 24 kills. Allanah Drayton-Campbell finished with 3 aces and 30 assists for the Panthers. Miara Bolden led the Panthers with 3 blocks. Nakayla James finished with 16 digs.
