West Point, Ga. – The Albany State University women's volleyball team battled through a challenging tri-match on Friday afternoon, falling in a hard-fought 2–3 loss to Clinton College before dropping their final match 0–3 to Point University to conclude non-conference play.
Match One: Clinton College 3, Albany State 2
The Lady Golden Rams opened the day against Clinton College in a thrilling five-set showdown that went down to the wire. Albany State showed resilience and energy throughout, pushing the Golden Bears to a deciding fifth set before ultimately coming up short.
Despite the loss, the Golden Rams displayed balanced offensive play and solid defensive coverage. Several players stepped up with key kills and serves to keep the momentum alive, but late errors in the final set proved costly. The narrow defeat dropped Albany State to 0–1 on the day but highlighted their ability to compete against a tough, fast-paced Clinton squad.
Match Two: Point University 3, Albany State 0
In their second matchup of the afternoon, the Lady Golden Rams faced host Point University, where fatigue and a strong Skyhawks attack proved challenging. Albany State battled through each set but ultimately fell in straight sets.
Offensively, Janaris Perez led the Golden Rams with nine kills on .200 hitting, adding three service aces and finishing with a team-high 12 total points.
Maya Ogbogu contributed six kills and a block assist, while
Erin Johnson chipped in five kills and one block assist.
Setter
Natalie Onozie directed the offense efficiently, tallying 11 assists, two service aces, and three digs, while
Liannette Burgos added 13 assists and a solid defensive presence with three digs. On the defensive end,
Talia Smith recorded a team-high nine digs, and
Cydney McKinney and
Shaniya Banks combined for three total blocks.
Up next, with non-conference play now behind them, the Lady Golden Rams will shift their focus back to SIAC competition as they prepare to host Benedict College for Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 9 at The ASU West Arena. The matchup will also mark the team's final home contest of the regular season as Albany State looks to close out strong before postseason play.
