MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Albany State University volleyball team closed out the Warhawk Invitational on Saturday with a pair of matches against Arkansas-Fort Smith and Middle Georgia State at the AUM Athletics Complex.
The Golden Rams battled throughout the day but fell in straight sets in both contests, dropping the opener to Arkansas-Fort Smith, 3-0, before falling to Middle Georgia State, 3-0.
Albany State moved to 6-7 on the season following the two matches.
Arkansas-Fort Smith 3, Albany State 0
Albany State opened Saturday against Arkansas-Fort Smith, falling by set scores of 25-19, 25-23 and 25-12.
The Golden Rams put together their strongest push in the second set. After dropping the opening frame, Albany State battled Arkansas-Fort Smith throughout the second before coming up just short, 25-23.
Amiria Anderson led the Golden Rams offensively with 12 kills while hitting .346. Jarianis Perez added nine kills and recorded a team-high 13 digs to finish with a strong all-around performance.
Aleiah Carr contributed six kills, while Shaniya Banks finished with five kills.
Trinity Britt directed the Albany State offense with 20 assists while adding six digs and two service aces. Myra Lopez recorded nine digs and an ace, while Gabby Moore also finished with nine digs.
Albany State recorded six service aces in the match, with Britt leading the way with two.
Middle Georgia State 3, Albany State 0
In the final match of the tournament, the Golden Rams battled Middle Georgia State in a competitive three-set contest, falling 25-23, 27-25 and 25-19.
Albany State pushed Middle Georgia State to the limit in each of the opening two sets. The Golden Rams came within two points in the first set before an extended second frame went to Middle Georgia State, 27-25.
Perez paced Albany State offensively with 13 kills on 28 attacks while hitting .321. She also added six digs, one service ace and a block assist.
Anderson finished with seven kills and four digs, while Banks contributed four kills and provided a strong presence at the net with four total blocks, including two solo blocks.
Onyinyechi Nwosu led the Golden Rams with 16 assists and added eight digs and two service aces. Liannette Burgos followed with 13 assists and eight digs.
Defensively, Lopez led Albany State with 12 digs, while Moore added 10.
Up Next
Albany State will return home for the SIAC Crossover, set for Friday, Sept. 18 through Saturday, Sept. 19. The Golden Rams will look to bounce back as they return to conference action in front of their home crowd.
