Albany State Volleyball Heads to Montgomery for Warhawk Invitational

ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University women's volleyball team returns to the court this weekend as the Golden Rams travel to Montgomery, Alabama, to compete in the Warhawk Invitational, hosted by Auburn University at Montgomery.

Albany State will play four matches over the two-day tournament. The Golden Rams open play Friday, Sept. 11, against Arkansas-Fort Smith at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT before taking on host Auburn Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 p.m. CT. ASU returns to action Saturday, Sept. 12, for a rematch against Arkansas-Fort Smith at 9:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. CT before closing the invitational against Middle Georgia State at 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT.

The Golden Rams enter the weekend looking to build on their performance at the UWA Invitational in Livingston, Alabama, where they split a pair of matches.

Albany State opened the UWA Invitational against host West Alabama, falling in straight sets, 25-16, 25-12 and 25-15. The Golden Rams responded in their second match of the day with a strong performance against United States Sports Academy.

ASU controlled the match from start to finish, earning a straight-set victory, 25-15, 25-20 and 25-16, to close the invitational on a high note.

Several Lady Golden Rams have emerged as statistical leaders through the early portion of the season. Jarianis Perez leads Albany State offensively with 61 kills, followed closely by Amiria Anderson with 60. Perez continues to provide an all-around presence for the Golden Rams, while Anderson has emerged as another key option in the ASU attack.

Liannette Burgos has helped direct the Albany State offense from the setter position and leads the team with 103 assists. At the net, Shaniya Banks has anchored the Golden Rams defensively, leading the team with 23 total blocks.

Albany State will look for its statistical leaders to continue their strong play as the Golden Rams face another challenging tournament field in Montgomery. With four matches scheduled over two days, ASU will have an opportunity to build on its victory to close the UWA Invitational and continue gaining momentum through the nonconference portion of the 2026 season.
