Golden Rams Fall to the Wildcats in the 2022 Fountain City Classic

The Albany State Golden Rams lost (31-21) to the Fort Valley State University Wildcats in the 32nd Annual Fountain City Classic that was played at the A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Georgia on Saturday, November 5, 2022.  The victory was the Wildcats first win in the Fountain City Classic since 2016. 
 
The Golden Rams finish the regular season with an overall record of 7-3 (5-2 in the SIAC).  The Wildcats finish the regular season with an overall record of 8-2 (5-2 in the SIAC).  Both teams will now wait until the final weekend to see if they will earn a bid to the 2022 NCAA Division II national tournament.
 
At the 2:40 mark in the 1st quarter, the Wildcats took a (7-0) lead when Emanuel Wilson scored on a 3-yard run to cap a drive that lasted 4:44 minutes.
 
The Wildcats extended their lead to (14-0) when Kelvin Durham connected with Hak Ellington for a 10-yard touchdown pass.  The drive covered 80 yards in 7 plays and lasted 3:38 minutes.
 
At the 10:13 mark in the 2nd quarter, the Golden Rams cut the lead in half when Jhaydon Sullivan connected with Ralph Lovett on a 21-yard touchdown pass to make it (14-7).  The drive covered 60 yards in 4 plays.
 
With 6:26 left in the 2nd quarter, the Wildcats extended their lead to (17-7) after Rod Williams connected on a 39 yard field goal.  The drive covered 56 yards on 7 plays.
 
Emanuel Wilson plunged in the endzone from the 1 yard line to give the Wildcats their biggest lead at (24-7) with 3:11 remaining in the 2nd quarter.
 
The Golden Rams responded by blocking a Wildcats punt and returning it for a touchdown.  Ethan Bell rambled 16 yards after the blocked punt to make it (24-14) at the half.
 
In the 4th quarter, the Golden Rams cut the lead to (24-21) after Jhaydon Sullivan connected with Ralph Lovett on a 7-yard touchdown pass.  The drive covered 80 yards on 10 plays.
 
With 1:47 remaining in the game, Emanuel Wilson scored on a 23-yard run to give the Wildcats a (31-21) advantage that was too much to overcome.  The drive covered 68 yards on 5 plays and lasted 3:32 minutes.
 
Emanuel Wilson was named the Wildcats MVP after rushing for 232 yards in the game.  The Wildcats finished with 415 yards of total offense in the game.  Kelvin Durham finished the game 17-24 with 1 touchdown for 198 yards.  Hak Ellington caught 3 passes for 40 yards and 1 touchdown for the Wildcats.  Fralon Warren finished with 76 yards receiving for the Wildcats.  Defensively, Tyler Moore led the Wildcats with 8 tackles.
 
The Golden Rams finished with 208 yards of total offense.  Jhaydon Sullivan connected on 9 passes out of 19 attempts for 122 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception for the Golden Rams.  Ralph Lovett caught both touchdown passes from Sullivan.  Lovett finished the game with 3 catches for 50 yards.  Jaquez Williams had 18 carries for 87 yards rushing for the Golden Rams.
 
Defensively, the Golden Rams were led by Jalen Pugh, who was named the Golden Rams MVP for the game.  Pugh finished with 7 total tackles and was credited with 2.5 tackles for a loss.  Antwone Watts was credited with 9 total tackles to lead the Golden Rams while Antonio Leroy contributed with 7 total tackles.
