ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany State University track & field teams competed at the Savannah State Eyeopener in their second competition of the outdoor season. The meet was hosted by Savannah State University at the Theodore A. Wright Stadium on February 27.
The Golden Rams finished fourth place overall with a team score of 81. The women's track & field finished fifth overall with a team score of 72. The final tally included scoring from 35 events and a field of 11 teams.
Benedict College won the overall meet on the men's side with a team score of 251 and on the women's side with a team score of 251. Clayton State finished third, followed by Albany State, Bryant & Stratton, Piedmont, Dalton State, Edward Waters, Francis Marion, USC-Beaufort and Morris College.

Sydney Blackburn's winning discus throw was marked at 150'04" at the Savannah State Eye Opener on Saturday. With the mark freshman thrower
Sydney Blackburn is now the new school record holder!
The previous record was held by CreAnn Perkins (2013) with a throw of 144'01".
This victory for Blackburn not only gave Sydney the new school record, it was also a provisional qualifying throw for the NCAA Division II National Championship. Sydney is currently ranked #1 in Division II.
Albany State will head to Savannah, Georgia to participate in the Savannah State University Tiger Orange and Blue Relays on March 6th.
