GAME PREVIEW: ASU vs Morehouse

The huge showdown between the Albany State University Golden Rams and the Morehouse College Maroon Tigers scheduled at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 30 has been moved from B.T. Harvey stadium across town to Lakewood Stadium.  The address is Lakewood Avenue SE, Atlanta, GA 30315. 
 
The Golden Rams enter the game with an overall record of 7-1 (4-0 in the SIAC).  After winning 5 games in a row, the Goldens Rams are now ranked 25th nationally by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA).  The Golden Rams are also ranked #3 in the NCAA Super Region (Region 2) Division II poll.  The Maroon Tigers enter the game with an overall record of 3-5 (3-1 in the SIAC).  After a slow start, the Maroon Tigers have won 3 straight games against Tuskegee University, Fort Valley State University and Benedict College, respectively. 
 
After 8 games, the Golden Rams are averaging 27.9 points per game on offense.  Dionte Bonneau passed for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns in his last game against Savannah State.  Rashad Jordan was the recipient of most of Bonneau's passes as he caught 8 balls for 111 yards and a touchdown.  Kam Ward led the Golden Rams in rushing with 67 yards and a touchdown against Savannah State. 
 
The Albany State University Golden Rams are the #1 ranked scoring defense in Division II.  The "Dirty Blue" defense is only yielding an astonishing 5.3 points per contest.  The "Dirty Blue" defense has held 5 opponents scoreless so far this season.  Stephan Pierre is leading the SIAC in tackles with 9.0 per game and fumbles recovered (3).  Coemba Jones was a disruptive force against Savannah State.  Jones tallied 9 tackles (6 solo), 1.5 tackles for a loss and 2.5 sacks.  Derek Davis, Eric Price, Roman Victor, Jalen Pugh and Ty Glen all contributed to the plethora of sacks verses Savannah State.
 
During the past 3 games, Morehouse is averaging 34 points per game while only giving up 7.6 per contest.  Michael Sims passed for 126 yards in the Maroon Tigers victory over Benedict College.  Fran Bailey, Jr. also rushed for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns on 15 carries.  Marqueiz Pride was the primary receiving target with 3 catches for 66 yards. Defensively, the Maroon Tigers were led by the duo of Daniel Norman and Zacha Beckton.  The duo combined for 20 tackles (6 tackles for a loss).  The Maroon Tigers also tallied 9 sacks against Benedict College.
 
The Golden Rams won the last contest against the Maroon Tigers by a score of 21-15.  That game was played on Senior Day in Albany on November 2, 2019.  The teams did not play on last season due to the pandemic.  Gabe Giardina is 3-0 as the head coach against Morehouse College.
