Three Golden Rams Take First Place in Individual Events

MOUNT BERRY, GA- The Albany State University men's and women's track and field teams finished fifth and sixth respectively at the Berry Field Day Invitational held Friday at Valhalla Stadium.

The ASU men tied at fifth place overall with a team total of 53 points over 20 events scored. The women's team came in a sixth place with a team score of 38 points. Emory University topped the men's field while Lee University (Tenn.) finished first on the women's side.

Three members of the Golden Ram track and field team, Marquis Davis, Dykearah Jones and Cervantes Jackson, soared above the field to take first place in their individual events.

Marquis Davis seized first overall in both the discus throw and the men's shot put. His distance in the discus went an even 44.00m while his toss in the shot put went for 13.66m. Davis also fared well in the men's hammer, taking seventh place with a throw of 36.97m.

It was business as usual for All-American Cervantes Jackson who continued his dominance in the high jump this season with another first place finish, this time clearing a height of 2.11m. Jackson also took third place in the long jump with a distance of 6.92m.

In the running events, Dykearah Jones placed first overall in the 200m race posting a time of 25.18

On the women's side, Brittianni Phillips, Ashley Harrell and Khadija Williams all had top ten finishes in the events to score points for Albany State. Phillips and Harrell placed second and seventh in the shot put with throws of 12.68m and 10.89m, respectively. Williams put up a distance of 33.68m in the javelin throw, good for third place in the finals.

Dorin Thornton had a solid afternoon with a second place finish in the 400m hurdles (55.74) and earned seventh place in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.06. With a time of 10.84 Christopher Jackson came in sixth place in the 100m dash and D'Shaun James took seventh overall in the finals of the 3000 meter steeplechase.
