TRACK AND FIELD COMPETES AT USA-JAGUAR INVITE

Cervantes Jackson Posts National Best in Long Jump

MOBILE, AL- The Albany State University track and field teams competed at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by the University of South Alabama last Friday.

Both Golden Ram teams put forth strong showings. Most notably on the men's side where Joshua Ajero captured first place in the 800m while Cervantes Jackson finished first in both the long jump and triple jump at 7.68m and 15.08m, respectively.

The 7.68 Jackson put up in the long jump ranks as the best in the nation this season. The All-American also took fifth overall in high jump at 1.96 meters.

Also in the men's 800m Jamorris Hill ran a 1:55.36, good for fifth place and Chaz Berry came in 10^th with a time of 1:59.88. Dorin Thornton took sixth overall in the men's 110 hurdles posting a time of 15:58.

In the other field events, Marquis Davis landed at seventh in the shot put at 13.61m and had a discus throw of 44.61m. Davis finished eleventh in the hammer with a distance of 34.99m.
The Golden Rams ran one relay race, the 4x400, and finished seventh out of a field of ten teams with a time of 42:74.

On the women's side, Brittani Phillips threw 12.87m on her third of five attempts, good for eighth overall in the shot put. Phillips also fared well in the discus, grabbing sixth place right behind teammate Khadija Williams who tossed distance of 37.56. Williams also took fifth overall in the javelin when her second attempt went for 38.49m.

On the track Shanya Washington, Lauryn Wilson, Raelyn Brown and Aaliyah Howard finished 15-18 in the women's 3000m run. Chanelle Wong topped the Golden Rams in that event, placing 10^th with a time of 12:03.34 and took 13^th and 14^th respectively in the 1500m and 800m races.

The track and field teams will compete again at University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational on March 24^th in Jacksonville, Florida.
