Box Score VALDOSTA STATE TOPS ALBANY STATE 6-0 IN SEASON OPENER

ALBANY- Valdosta State University played spoiler in the Lady Golden Rams' inaugural soccer game, blanking Albany State 6-0 Friday night at ASU West Soccer Field.
The Blazers struck early in the opening half, just a minute and four seconds into the game, on a goal by Jordan Humbert. Ashleigh Lewis added another scored with just under 10 minutes left in the first half and Valdosta State held a 2-0 lead at the intermission.
The Lady Golden Rams only got two shot attempts in the game, both of which came in the first half.
The Blazers were the aggressor the majority of the evening, racking up 31 shots and ASU's net; 18 of those scoring attempts came in a second half where they scored four times. Almost identical to the opening half, VSU scored a little over a minute into the second stanza and later Riley Tennant connected on back to back goals, two and a half minutes apart.
Caitlyn Dawkins scored on a free kick for the final point spread.
Abby Whiteside had nine saves on the evening for Albany State.
ASU (0-1) will hit the road for the next game, a non-conference tilt against the University of West Florida on September 6
th. Game time is scheduled for 5pm CST.
