Lady Golden Rams Close 2025 Season with Heart, Fall in Season Finale to Columbus State

COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Albany State women's soccer team concluded its 2025 campaign on Saturday afternoon, battling through a tough matchup against a nationally competitive Columbus State squad at the Walden Soccer Complex. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Lady Golden Rams fell 6-0 to the Lady Cougars.

Albany State (3-12-1, 0-9-1 PBC) showed grit and determination throughout the match, refusing to back down against one of the Peach Belt Conference's top-scoring offenses. Goalkeeper Leire Rodriguez Najera stood tall in net, registering four saves
while facing relentless offensive pressure from Columbus State (11-5-1, 8-2 PBC), who fired 34 total shots. Offensively, Albany State tallied five total shots — three of which were on goal — led by Nelia Dailey, Taylor Holmes, and Jada Thompson, who each challenged the CSU goalkeeper in the second half.

While the score didn't reflect the effort, the Lady Golden Rams displayed improvement and competitive resilience that carried throughout the season. Under first-year head coach leadership, Albany State finished with a 3-12-1 record, marking the program's best season since 2021 and showing significant progress in team chemistry and defensive structure.

As the Lady Golden Rams turn the page on the 2025 season, the foundation is set for a bright future. With a young core returning and a renewed sense of belief, Albany State women's soccer will look to build upon this year's momentum heading into the 2026 campaign.
